SiVIC (Silicon Valley Interreligious Council) builds interreligious harmony and understanding so as to promote a just and compassionate society in Silicon Valley. Established in 2011, it is the most recent form of a history of interfaith cooperation in the South Bay that extends back 40 years or more. SiVIC helps build relationships among religious communities, encourages shared action and service, offers education about religious diversity, documents the interreligious life of Silicon Valley and works cooperatively with local, regional, national, and global interreligious organizations, including the United Religions Initiative, North American Interfaith Network, and the Parliament of the World’s Religions.
Ongoing programs include the monthly, Interreligious Leaders Forum, the Sustainable, Just and Healthy Foods Campaign, “Our Religious Neighbor Next Door” Photo project, and an annual Coat Giveaway in December. During World Interfaith Harmony Week this year, SiVIC is partnering with the Compassion Games‘ Interfaith League to bring the UN World Interfaith Harmony Week Coopetition to life.
